About Jubilee Motor Insurance

Lloyd's information

Lloyd's of London is the world's leading insurance market, the second largest commercial insurer and sixth largest re-insurer. It is well known that Lloyd’s started in a coffee shop, and ironically over the centuries the wheel has come full circle with a proliferation of modern coffee shops around the Lloyd’s building being frequented by Underwriters and Brokers.

Come and meet with a Jubilee Underwriter at our box at Lloyd's. We can be found on the 1st Floor of the Lloyd's Building at Box number 143, alternatively please telephone 0207 327 4118 or fax 0870 2428243.

A certain amount of Jargon is used in connection with Lloyd’s:

  • An individual business trading within Lloyd’s is known as a Syndicate
  • The person ultimately in charge of running the Syndicate is known as the Active Underwriter. Other members of Syndicate Staff who are authorised to accept business on behalf of the Syndicate are also called underwriters.
  • Business in Lloyd’s is transacted in the Lloyd’s building at individual trading desks known as ‘Boxes’. Each Syndicate is represented at the Box by one or more Underwriters, and Brokers approach Underwiters on behalf of their clients, to obtain insurance. The Underwriter then has to decide whether he wants to accept the insurance on behalf of his Syndicate, and if so, at what premium and terms.
  • Each Lloyd’s Syndicate has an allocated amount of business that it is allowed to accept in a calendar year. This is known as the Syndicate’s Stamp Capacity.

Details of Lloyd's financial security ratings can be found on the Lloyd's website.
