The origins of Lloyd’s date back to the late 17th century when wealthy businessmen calling at Edward Lloyd’s Thames-side coffee shop would take shares in policies. They would sign their names on policy documents, one below the other, giving rise to the term ’underwriters’.

Today, over 70 syndicates — including three managed by Jubilee Managing Agency Limited — compete and co-operate to deliver leading-edge solutions and underwriting expertise. The market has the capacity to accept insurance premiums of over £14 billion and underwrites business in over 200 countries and territories around the world.
